To build a leading European traceable blue mussel ingredient platform. Getting there means controlling the full supply chain, from Nordic cultivation to finished ingredient.
From coastal research to a new ingredient platform
Musselfeed was founded in 2013 by marine ecologist and associate professor Odd Lindahl, known for his work on mussel farming as a tool against coastal eutrophication caused by agricultural runoff.
Lindahl saw the potential in making use of mussels that don’t reach the food market because they are too small or have some other cosmetic imperfection.
A patented, gentle process was developed to refine the mussel meat into a nutrient-rich ingredient in powder form. This technology remains the foundation of production today.
Over time, Musselfeed has built practical know-how in turning mussels into stable ingredients, separating the meat and shell fractions and producing powder. Alongside this, the company has gained insight into what customers value, through both direct consumer sales and professional applications.
Today, Musselfeed is entering its next phase, building on previously gained experience to develop a traceable Nordic supply chain for high-value ingredients: from mussel cultivation and transport to processing and delivery.
The ambition is to use more of this remarkable marine resource, creating value close to its origin, with greater control, clearer provenance, and nothing wasted.
With a growing raw-material base, a patented process and a clear commercial focus, Musselfeed is scaling into larger European ingredient markets.
